Eight people have been arrested for allegedly attacking police and damaging several police vehicles in Kimberley, in the Northern Cape, on Thursday.
Chaos erupted when police fired rubber bullets to disperse a large group of people who attacked officers as they were trying to arrest a man accused of being in possession of drugs on Elliot Street in the Kimberley CBD.
Northern Cape police spokesperson Colonel Cherelle Ehlers said: "One suspect was arrested for illegal possession of drugs and three suspects were arrested for public violence and detained at the Kimberley Police Station."
